Singapore Life/Food

Chopsuey Cafe | Dempsey Hill American Chinese Restaurant

Do you all like fusion cuisine? When I was living in Houston, I could never get enough of Tex-Mex.

With Singapore being a culturally diverse country, there is a wide variety of fusion cuisine including Indian Chinese and American Chinese. I have visited a famous American Chinese restaurant located at Dempsey Hill - Chopseuy cafe.

Chop suey actually is a name of a fusion Chinese dish which you use whatever vege and protein you have on hand, quickly stir fry with oyster sauce.

Chopseuy cafe has a luxury mixture of Asian and Western interior designs.

Once you enter from the entrance, there is a big porcelain flower vase filled with beautiful flowers. These flowers change everytime I visit, so it's kinda fun to check out what flowers they have at the moment.

The terrace area is quite pleasant, so if you visit during the dinner time, maybe it's a good idea to sit in the terrace.

This place is popular for its dimsum and brunch menu.

I mostly visited on the weekdays, so haven't get to try its brunch menu, but the reviews are quite nice.

Three menus that I recommend are Szechuan string beans with minced chicken, Crispy Lobster Wontons, and San Choy Pau A.K.A DIY Lettuce Cups.

Szechuan string beans is great with fried rice and beer, and needless to say, the lobster wontons are so crispy and juicy.

The DIY lettuce cup is a dish where you make your own wrap with the lettuce, leafs, and stir-fried chopped vege. It's so tasty that I had to cook myself the same dish at home several times.

BUT

I wouldn't recommend y'all to visit Chopsuey cafe. It's not because the food is not tasty, well, actually the food is great. But, this place is expensive.

It's not like the dishes are overly priced or whatsoever, but if you buy a bottle of oyster sauce from the FairPrice and buy a packet of string beans, you'll be able to make a similar food with less than 5 bucks.

That's all I could say!
